Welcome to the Path to the Fountain of Youth
First let me say “Welcome to Golfskills101.com”. The orginal site was put together to promote a “Lesson Center”, located at one of the finer golf facilities in the Dallas/ Ft Worth Metroplex. The idea for the lesson center was to reach out to all age levels, and offer something different. The difference that I saw first hand between the new method and the old tradition method is how the golf club and our body are designed to work together. Something that sadly very few Pro’s teach. The lesson center made a decision to take a different direction, and go back to traditional methods of teaching. I made a personal decision rather than abandon the orginal idea of offering a new method I would continue to use this site for the purpose of offering to others like me, that enjoy golf, the key elements that helped me.
Offering what helped me is just that, it helped me, and if it helped me it can help anyone. Including you. I am your average golfer, and because of that I can relate to the majority. For years I looked for the answers of the perfect golf swing, and I was convinced if so many Pro’s could do it so could I.
Early in my life I developed a “perception” of a good golf swing, and tired to swing the club based on the factors I felt contributed to that ultimate perfect swing. Even during a round of golf I would always be tweaking my swing, this is not one of the good ideas I plan to share. There are many things for me to think about each shot. Here are just a few knees flexed, eyes behind the ball, weight balanced (or favoring my right side or left depending on the shot), feel the weight of my butt over my heels (like sitting on a bar stool, the “V” of my right hand pointed at one of my shoulders, left arm straight.. now these few things are only for the setup and I have not even started my swing. Now for the swing take the club back parrell to the ground, think inside out, full finish, left shoulder under my chin, weight shift to right foot, butt of the grip pointed at the ball (that is the take away now for the down swing) pull with the left push with the right, shift my weight to my left side, thrust my hips forward, belt buckle forward, keep my head down, finish high, full extension, and then hold my pose.
Should you or I forget to do any one of these things we have something to blame for the bad shot, and we go see a Pro for a lesson, and he/she will tell us what we forgot. Maybe even add something to our already too long check list of things to do.
I was playing golf with my regular foursome and one of my close friend was on the tee box addressing the ball. The rest of us watched patiently for what seems to be eternity, and then our friend straightened up looked at us and calmly said “Wow, the check list keeps getting longer, and longer”. We all could relate, can you?
With this being said I would invite you to come back because there will be tips offered to remove the nonsense and enjoy the game of golf. Your hardest thing to do is to forget everything you have been told, read, or seen on a video. I am not trying to sell anyone, and that will make it difficult because we all want a sales pitch to justify the value.
The areas this site will focus on is doing what comes natural for you, and let the golf equipment do what it is designed to do. Simple to say but difficult to execute. Also this site will offer “Ask our Pro”, and that Pro is Eben Dennis. Eben taught me a lot, and I am in his debt for he made golf once again fun for me. He will gladly answer questions from you, at no cost to you.
