Handicap

I have struggle with the value of the handicap system for years. Maybe it is just me but I feel the handicap system causes more problems than it solves. The scores can be falsely represented (sandbagger), and then it takes away the pleasure of competion from those that did offer a proper handicap. At the same time I play with some low to plus handicap players, and I feel bad takening strokes. Reason: I par a stroke hole, and they have to birdie or lose the hole. Net score for the round is different, but we like to play match.
OK, I am asking a question, but at the same time offering my experience as to why handicaps don’t really work all that well.
I was playing with a plus handicap (one that hated to give any strokes), asked me to name the game, number of strokes he had to give, and name the game. I offered.. OK, lets’ play but no strokers. He was in shock until
